A Message from Julia on Climate Change and the Climate Strike on Sept. 24th

On Friday, September 24th, hundreds of thousands of students and citizens from around the globe will take a bold stand on Climate Change and participate in the 2021 Global Youth Climate Strike.*  The march begins at 11 AM at the Oregon Convention Center and ends at Portland City Hall.  I will be there in solidarity with students as they depart from the Convention Center.

What I’m Doing About the Climate Change

I’m committed to helping to create a Zero-Carbon-Footprint for Portland Public Schools.  As the Chair of the Board Policy Committee, we just released a draft Climate Crisis Response Policy for public engagement, and I want your feedback.  Let me know what you like about the policy or what’s missing, as well as a short note about your commitment to a zero carbon footprint and what quadrant of the city you live in.  You can send your comments to jbrim-edwards@pps.net.

*Important Note:  PPS is NOT sponsoring this event, but we do recognize students’ constitutional right to freedom of expression. A communication about permissions, absences, and expectations has been shared with PPS families.  Please read the PPS materials and talk with your student about this event. Once students leave school campus for unsponsored events, Portland Public Schools can no longer guarantee their safety.
